Free From Favourites #1 - Sweet Treats

Friday, 15 December 2017

Over the past five and a half years I've tried countless amounts of free from products in search of those I think are worth buying again and again. These days there are so many new options regularly appearing on the supermarket shelves it's not easy to resist throwing them all into your basket - we've all been there!

Starting off with gluten free offerings almost six years ago and in the last year or so dairy free and vegan options too, I've tried a whole lot of free from products and I thought it might be a nice idea to start a new series, sharing some of my top free from picks with you. Because we all like to indulge every now an again, I'm kicking off today with five of my favourite sweet treats!

Booja Booja Hunky Punky Chocolate Ice Cream (Gluten Free/Vegan)

Booja Booja's delicious four ingredient dairy-free 'Hunky Punky Chocolate' is hands down the best dairy-free ice cream alternative I've tried. Cashews help to make it super creamy and smooth in texture and I really love that there are so few ingredients. If the ice cream doesn't take your fancy their truffles are absolutely delicious too and would make a really lovely gift for any of the free from foodies in your life.

Foods Of Athenry Cookie Shots 'Brownie Biscuits' (Gluten-Free/Vegan)

These tiny cookies are so delicious it's hard to believe they're free from so many things! With a crunchy texture and dark chocolate flavour they make a tasty snack but they're also great crumbled up as a porridge topping!

Oatly Vanilla Custard (Dairy-Free)

As I've mentioned before I'm a fan of some of Oatly's other products such as the chocolate milk and cream alternatives. I don't think I actually realised that I missed custard so much until I found this product but it has now become a staple in the weekly shop, in fact I'd go as far to say that I probably eat too much of it. Just as you would expect it has a smooth texture and sweet vanilla flavour that pairs perfectly with crumbles, pies and puddings.

Vego Bars (Gluten Free/Vegan)

Since going dairy-free 'giving up' chocolate isn't something I've struggled with very much as I've always been a fan of dark chocolate. Having said that sometimes it's nice to have a more milky chocolate treat and my top pick for this would have to be Vego bars. Containing whole hazelnuts these are an amazing treat especially for those who can't imagine giving up their Whole Nut!

Coconut Collaborative Little Choc Pots (Gluten Free/Vegan)

There are lots of delicious looking chocolate desserts out there but unfortunately most brands don't currently cater for a free from diet. Luckily Coconut Collaborative have created this tasty alternative made from coconut cream and dark chocolate which is a perfect after-dinner treat.
